© Juanma Ferreira En castellano más abajo On 21 July 2018 a 'pale' Reed Warbler ( Acrocephalus scirpaceus) aged EURING 3 (born in 2018) was trapped and ringed at Algar river, Alicante (Toni Zaragozí, Juanma Ferreira, Paco Galindo). Its identification was straightforward thanks to biometrics and its structure and general shape. However, the bird was extremely pale, diluted, compared to a regular Reed Warbler (see enclosed photos). The bird presented a colour aberration in which apparently the pigments responsable for black coloration (eumelanins) were missing. Brown pigments were present (originated by phaeomelanins) and the regular eye colour discarded an albino, which would also present a full white coloration.  This pale bird would apparently be showing a 'brown' aberration. This colour variation is caused by a qualitative reduction of eumelanin. The whole amount of pigmentation does not change but 'black' is missing. A leucistic b...

On 11 May 2015 José Luís Anguita observed and photographed what seemed a milk & coffee Pied Flycatcher Ficedula hypoleuca within a Seville, Andalusia, urban park. He took three photos (attached) and he described the sighting as follows: Ayer encontré este papamoscas en un parque de Sevilla capital. Lo di por hembra de cerrojillo y no me fijé en su vuelo ocupado con las fotos...pero al verlas parece atípico. No sabemos si leucístico o alguna otra especie. Como continuación del post anterior, añadimos el documento enviado por Xabier Varela sobre un Calidris alpina presente en  Baldaio, A Coruña, en septiembre de 2009 que tenía tonos blancos y crema pálidos. De acuerdo con van Grouw (2013, British Birds 106: 17-29) de ser un 'brown' tendría el color del pico y patas más pálidas de lo normal, cosa que no parece ser el caso del ave. Sería aparentemente por tanto un caso de 'diluted' o 'dilución' del plumaje como alguno de los mencionados en el post anterior. Todas las fotos © Xabier Varela.

El 3 de Marzo de 2013 se observó un ejemplar aparentemente blanco de correlimos tridáctilo ( Calidris alba ) en las Salinas de Santa Pola, Alicante junto a un centenar de otros limícolas ( Calidris minuta, Charadrius hiaticula y Ch.dubius a parte de más C.alba , Toni Mulet, Fernando Camuñas, Toni Zaragozí y más tarde Jacobo Ramos). Se trataría pués de un ejemplar que aunque pudiese ser leucístico si tuviese plumas de coloración normal, propiamente hablando seguramente sea un 'diluted' pastel (van Greuw 2013) dado que un ejemplar albino no debería tener trazas de negro y el ojo debería ser rojo.
